Space Rayzers
Drift Trikes (a.k.a. six tricked out Bigwheels)
’Space Rayzers’ serendipitously became a critical project in my personal healing process. Last year was marked by one personal traumatic experience, followed by another - the loss of my father. Intense grief led to a mental breakdown. During that time a particular memory kept popping up- I was a child racing away on my Bigwheel (picture a little redheaded girl with the same vigor and intense stare as Danny, the child riding his Bigwheel through the hotel hallways in Kubrick’s The Shining).
When my good friend Paula Katz (Curator) contacted me about being in this exhibition, I told her that my creativity was suffering due to grief, and I was in a fragile state of mental health. Paula was especially supportive in her willingness to help me pull things together. Later that same day, I contacted her….
Me: “Would you like to be in a bigwheel gang with me?”
(seeking an antidote to my mental breakdown)
Paula: “So would you like that to be your project?”
Me: “Ummm……….Yeah! And they are going to be totally tricked out.”
Paula obtained the drift trikes and enlisted Chromatic Collective to trick out four of the six, making them the first official members of the Space Rayzers gang.
Special Thanks to Paula Katz and Chromatic Collective for making this happen.
